This opportunity is for someone interested in learning more about Lighting Design for theatre. The role will provide the opportunity to shadow and observe the work of Lighting Designer Paul Pyant, in the creation of his design for Summerfolk by Maxim Gorky in a new version by Nina Raine and Moses Raine. The placement will offer the opportunity to: Observe the work of the lighting designer. See how they work with the wider creative team. Attend meetings alongside the lighting designer if appropriate. Attend rehearsals, fit up, technical rehearsals and previews to observe key parts of the production process. Dates: 8 days (64 hours) between 19 January and 12 March 2026 Payment: A bursary based on the London Living Wage equivalent to 8 full days (£13.85 hourly rate across 64 hours, totalling £886.40) What we're looking for: A strong interest in pursuing a career as a Lighting Designer Some demonstrable experience/knowledge of theatre lighting (e.g. a qualification, experience as a lighting technician, completed an apprenticeship, experience on student productions) The ability to communicate how this opportunity will provide a next step in their creative practice and career development Willingness to work in a team A collaborative, adaptable approach An awareness of/and interest in sustainability in the theatre production process and the NT's aims in this area Apply via the link below.Job Summary
