Description

Job Description

Britten Pears Arts is a pioneering music, arts and heritage charity based on the Suffolk coast at two popular, historic visitor destinations: The Red House and Snape Maltings. We emerged from the creative partnership of Benjamin Britten, one of the greatest composers of the 20th century, and his professional and personal partner, singer Peter Pears.

Our founders' vision, that music should be useful and enhance lives, inspires all our activities: our work with local and marginalised communities through to our national leadership roles in the fields of talent development and music for health & wellbeing. We are about to embark on a Capital project which will improve access to our site and buildings - creating, for this role in particular, opportunities to plan and deliver an even more dynamic programme.

Working 28 hours per week over 4 days, the role includes regular delivery of, or attendance at, project activity as well as regional/national networks, working alongside the internal team and overseeing a team of freelance artists to ensure that co-created activity is of the highest quality. Projects include Later Life, Criminal Justice, Community Musician Training and Professional Learning.

To be considered for this role you must be a musician - not necessarily professional - and have:

  • Demonstrable experience of delivering short, and long term, participatory music projects for a range of community groups.
  • The ability to think and plan for the medium and long term.
  • Experience of working with, and managing, freelance musicians in the delivery of projects.
  • Experience of working with people living in challenging circumstances eg: vulnerable young people, people with life-limiting conditions, those in the criminal justice system.
  • The ability to collaborate with others, to contribute to the overall aims and ambitions of the whole music programme.
  • A determination to overcoming the barriers that can hinder access to music and the arts.
