Job Summary

Your role will be to lead on creating and delivering an engaging programme of public events, aligned to the exhibition and displays strategy and audience development strategy.

Job Description

Our ambition is to curate two events focussed on museum storytelling, and two events focussed on authors and artists each month to deliver a weekly events programme that reaches a wide, diverse audience across the spectrum of the LGBTQ+ communities and our allies.

A hybrid/flexible post with normal working hours from 10am - 6pm (16 hours, including paid lunch hour) and the expectation of being onsite Wednesdays, and as required in order to fulfil the duties of the post. Evening and weekend work will be necessary, and we operate a time-off-in-lieu policy .

The role is permanent (following 6 month probation) and the salary is £14,345 for 2 days per week (pro rata of £35,863 for 0.4 full-time equivalent)

Job Requirements

Our ideal candidate would be:

  • Someone experienced working in a curatorial or programming department in a gallery, library, archive, museum or performing arts organisation

  • Someone with good knowledge of LGBTQ+ history and culture

  • A creative mindset, experienced in delivering events focused on storytelling and creativity from lived experience

  • Someone able to build positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including Museum staff, guest artists, visitors, volunteers and board members.

  • Someone excited about the prospect of working a cultural organisation with inclusive storytelling at the heart of everything we do.

  • A dynamic individual, with the ability to work independently, and yet collaboratively across the entire organisation

  • Someone committed to their own professional development, and willing to share their knowledge, skills and experience

  • An excellent communicator, and confident with technology

Job Responsibilities

Strategy

  • With Head of Programme and Collections and Chief Executive, you will design an events programme that enhances public engagement with our exhibitions and displays.

Working in Partnership

  • Taking a strategic approach to partnerships; working with a wide-variety of organisations, venues, authors, artists and activists that will bring in new audiences.

Project Management

  • You will manage the full lifecycle of public events.

Logistics and Operations

  • At each event, you will oversee all aspects of delivery, with support.

Marketing

  • You will collaborate on promotional material.

Audience Development

  • You will ensure programming reflects existing audiences, alongside bringing new ones
  • You will explore the appetite for online events.

Evaluation

  • In order to measure impact, you will track and analyse audience feedback on events.
