Job Summary

Tyne & Wear Archives are delivering a project called Unlocking North-East Jewish Heritage which has created an online resource to tell key stories of the North-East Jewish communities and to widen access for academics.

Job Description

£31,586 - £34,314 per annum, pro rata. (£18,951 - £20,402 actual salary, pay award pending)

22.2 hours per week

The innovative location-based platform enables us to tell complex stories using items from multiple collections and allow the now lost Jewish communities of North-East England to be understood in their geographic, social and civic context. This project is currently in its third year.

The project will continue to develop, populate with digitised collections, and maintain a digital platform that enables the stories of the Jewish communities of North-East England to be told, broadening engagement with the Jewish history of the region. We have developed a map/location based digital solution for archives discoverability which is designed to tell human stories through places. It also shows complex narratives in a visually compelling way, allowing users to interactively explore digitised records. Over the next 12 months we are recruiting a Project Co-ordinator to further develop the resource through work with community partners, academics and other regional heritage organisations.

We are looking for an enthusiastic candidate with an interest in the history of the Jewish community in the North East, experience of planning and delivering projects and excellent research skills. You will have experience of engaging with communities and be confident promoting the resource to diverse audiences. You will also have experience of writing reports and excellent organisational and time management skills, experience of working with academics and supporting research and an ability to work on your own initiative and in a team. It will also be essential to have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and demonstrate strong IT skills.
