Job Description

  • 29.6 hours per week
  • £27,711 to £30,060 per annum pro rata
  • Based at the Museum of Norwich
  • Fixed Term Contract until 31 March 2027

Norfolk Museums Service wishes to appoint a dynamic Project Worker to join the Kick the Dust team. This role is part of the county wide youth engagement programme, based two days per week in Norwich and two days per week supporting the work of the Gressenhall Environment Hub.

The project worker will facilitate impactful and sustained engagement with young people aged 13-25 years, including those most hard to reach. This will involve working in partnership with YMCA Norfolk, Norfolk Libraries and Information Service, schools, colleges, universities, and other organisations looking to engage young people with creative heritage and environmental activities.

The role will involve some travel to Norfolk Museums Service venues across the county.

Job Requirements

To work as part of a Norfolk Museums Service (NMS) team to deliver the activity plan for the innovative Kick the Dust (KTD) programme, in partnership with YMCA, Norfolk Libraries & Information Service and other organisations working with young people.

The post holder will deliver creative heritage & skills development projects. They will develop the resources for these projects; make connections to the local partners and ensure that the young people have access to a variety of opportunities inspired by museums, heritage and collections.

Job Responsibilities

  • Deliver activities for the KTD programme that are responsive to the interests of young people and are developed through a method of action research and reflective practice.
  • Implement the KTD Activity Plan with the support of new and existing partners to engage and retain young people, particularly those with barriers to participation in heritage and the arts.
  • Work with the Gressenhall Environment Hub team to develop opportunities for young people to research and respond to environmental issues and challenges for Norfolk and its communities.
  • Support the evaluation of all elements of the KTD programme, review the effectiveness of the programme with young people, write reports and best practice case studies.
  • Support the effective communication of the KTD programme through local media, social media and blogs, promote youth engagement projects, present at conferences and proactively advocate for the programme.
