Proposal and Fundraising Writer Development Full-time, 41 hours per week (including one hour paid lunch break) Permanent £43,317 per annum Application deadline: 12pm (midday) on Wednesday 13 August 2025

Job Description

This exciting new role is responsible for creating persuasive fundraising materials that will engender philanthropic donations and corporate sponsorship.

You will work closely with colleagues within Development and across the Museum and play a pivotal role in supporting the upcoming https://www.britishmuseum.org/about-us/masterplan - Masterplan campaign.

You will spend most of your time developing cases for support, key messages, fundraising proposals, and presentations, while directly supporting fundraising activity at the highest levels.

Job Requirements

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent experience.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral) with the ability to engage a variety of external audiences and internal stakeholders at all levels.
  • Experience of using persuasive writing techniques to encourage donations and sponsorship.
  • Experience of working in a fundraising department in a complex organisation.
  • Strong administrative, organisational, and task management skills.
  • High levels of initiative and motivation, diplomatic and solutions-focused.

Job Responsibilities

  • Research and write persuasive fundraising proposals, pitches, and reports for priority projects working closely with the Director of Development, Philanthropy Team, and Corporate Partnerships.
  • Create a 'case for support' and related collateral for the Museum's upcoming Masterplan campaign.
  • Develop and maintain a bank of proposals and pitch documents for key strategic fundraising priorities to ensure consistency, accuracy, and the highest standards of presentation.
  • Produce and maintain professional, attractive templates and boilerplate content for proposals, reports, and other fundraising documents.
  • Maintain a library of approved materials and share these across the Development Department via SharePoint.
