Job Summary

Rural Arts is seeking a motivated, effective and creative Public Programme Manager to develop and manage all aspects of our programme that the public can access, largely this is the On Tour (Rural Touring scheme) and programme at The Courthouse.

Job Description

This is a role suited for an experienced manager of creative programmes, who can work effectively to connect audiences to opportunities across North Yorkshire and in Thirsk. Someone who wants to develop programmes that can connect people to creativity at a participatory and audience level.

You be a methodical manager who uses time effectively to deliver as much opportunities for participants as possible, working with creative organisations and artists to use their skills to inspire audiences. You should have experience in making good decisions based on audience requirements and budget opportunities.

This is a new role within the Programme & Practice team. You will work within that team to embed ambition and quality into the On Tour and Courthouse programmes. This is a great role for someone who wants to bring community driven art practice and engagement to rural locations across North Yorkshire, driving cultural participation and community development as a result.

Job Requirements

  • Experience, interest and understanding of programming both live performance and/or workshops and events.
  • Experience, interest in or understanding of professional performance and workshops in non-professional settings (e.g. village halls, community centres etc).
  • Experience managing projects operating in multiple areas.
  • Experience managing budgets and delivering to timelines.
  • Experience building relationships, collaborations and partnership.
  • Excellent communication, time management and organisational skills.
  • Adept at using databases, evaluation platforms, Microsoft Office 365 packages.
  • Ability to attend performances and workshops across North Yorkshire, which may occur at weekends and evenings.

Job Responsibilities

  • Manage and develop the On Tour scheme across North Yorkshire, including the additional work in Selby (Redcar and Cleveland)
  • Develop The Courthouse programme for new and existing audiences for creativity and culture at The Courthouse, Thirsk, based on data and evaluation.
  • Work with Head of Programme & Practice to embed Rural Arts creative methodology in researching, selecting and collaborative programming, aligning The Courthouse and On Tour programmes with other successful Rural Arts programme.
  • Using On Tour and The Courthouse programme to support artists development, and in particular to seek opportunities to support rurally based artist or organisations access national opportunities.
  • Creating contracts for artists and organisation delivering programme, overseeing negotiation of fees, dates, technical requirements.
  • Supporting Volunteer Promoters, freelance artists develop, promote the respective programmes.
