The Project For over 700 years, the people of Haringey have stood at the forefront of social, political and cultural movements, challenging the status quo and rallying for justice. From the legacy of figures such as Bernie Grant - one of the first Black leaders of a Council and a pioneering MP - to the countless communities who have united in solidarity and resistance, rebellion has always been part of the borough's story. Issues we now recognise as fundamental: education and opportunity for all, racial equality, LGBTQI+ rights, anti-ageism and disability access - were once viewed as radical and anti-establishment. Collective action behind these movements has long had a home in Haringey's rebel borough. Over 600 of Haringey's rebel moments have been captured in a one-hundred page Rebel Timeline curated by Deborah Hedgecock, the curator of Bruce Castle Museum & Archive.
