Description

Job Summary

Opportunity for an early career director to work with LYT across our 2026 season.

Job Description

London Youth Theatre (LYT) works with young people across the capital aged 14-22. LYT's core aim is to make the performing arts more accessible & affordable for young people across London. From 2026, 60% of our places will be free of charge, with the remaining places on a tiered pricing scheme.

The Resident Assistant Director (RAD) will work across all three of our productions in our 2026 season and have the opportunity to work and collaborate closely with three different Lead Directors. They will co-direct the final show of the season, a devised project.

They will provide continuity and a friendly face to our members during our weekly Saturday rehearsals. The pastoral nature of the job is a vital part of the RAD role in helping our members feel LYT is a safe, supportive and familiar place. For this reason, it is imperative that applicants are able to commit to the full 2026 season, in order to provide the consistency to the young people that is central to this position.

The RAD has a key role to play in LYT's safeguarding procedures. Previous safeguarding experience and/or training is desirable, but not a requirement for the role. LYT will provide training as required.

Key dates:

Rehearsals: every Saturday from 10th January 2026 until the end of the season in December, 11:30am - 3:30pm.

Production week 1: 7th - 11th April 2026

Summer Intensive rehearsals: 20th July - 7th August 2026(Mon-Fri)

Production Week 2: 10th August - 15th August 2026

Production week 3: 2nd - 6th December 2026

The fee for the role is £6000. It is anticipated that the total number of working hours for this role across the year will be approx 340.

The RAD will need to be available for the majority of rehearsals but there can be some flexibility with advance notice and the agreement of the Lead Directors/Co-Artistic Directors.

We're extremely keen to meet early career directors from backgrounds currently under-represented in our industry.
