Description

Job Summary

Barnsley Libraries are looking for an artist/s with links to Royston or the surrounding area to submit an idea for a micro-commission to be held at Royston Library.

Job Description

The micro-commission is an opportunity to celebrate Royston and it's communities and showcase your creative practice. You could be an early career artist looking for that first platform or exhibition space, or maybe you're someone who is already established, we'd love to hear from everyone.

Our library users have told us they want something that puts the library on the map, is something the community can interact with and is suitable for all ages.

The shortlisted ideas will be presented in the Library for a public vote with the final commission being chosen by the community and library customers.

The commission is for £1,000 (inclusive of planning, expenses, evaluation and exclusive of VAT).

Job Requirements

What you'll do:

  • Plan and deliver a creative project, exhibition, series of workshops or other idea specific to Royston and it's communities.
  • Deliver and complete activity between January and March 2025
  • Collaborate with the Barnsley Libraries team to devise a suitable method of evaluation for the project, this will include a meeting at the end of the project which can be held virtually.
  • Complete an artist evaluation survey at the end of the project to let us know how we can improve our commission process for artists.

What we'll do:

  • Support the project with room bookings and logistics at the Library.
  • Support you to contact existing groups in Royston Library and surrounding area if needed for your project.
  • Collaborate in the evaluation process (we already have some methods of evaluation, but we are interested to hear any creative evaluation method you may have).
