This is an exciting opportunity to lead the new Russian-language section of the Pushkin House Bookshop. The Russian-language bookseller will develop and implement the curatorial and sales strategy of Russian-language books and initiate the Russian-language author events programme.
The responsibilities of the role are:
Stock curation
- Source and order a carefully curated and commercially minded selection of books across fiction, history, current affairs, art and design, and children's books
- Proactively build relationships with book distributors and publishing reps to find frontlist and backlist titles
Events
- Initiate the Russian-language public programme, organising events with authors and literary experts, centred around the books in stock
Customer-facing
- Be a friendly and welcoming face to visitors of the bookshop
- Recommend Russian-language books to customers
Strategy and budget
- Work with the Bookshop Manager to develop the identity and strategy of the bookshop
- Develop a business plan to maximise sales of the Russian-language books
- Deliver to financial targets
- Oversee the Russian-language book budget
Admin
- Liaise with distributors and publishers to order books
- Keep accurate records of orders, invoices and expenses
- Be responsible for Russian-language titles on our stock management system and online shop
- Analyse sales data and consumer buying trends to influence book buying decisions
Marketing
- Work in partnership with our Marketing Officer and Bookshop Manager to develop promotional materials across our social media, newsletter and other channels
Previous bookselling experience is not essential, but you must have experience in a self-motivated, commercially-driven role in the cultural or creative industries, retail, or the book trade.
Essential
- Fluent in Russian and English. Excellent written and verbal communication in both languages
- A keen reader with knowledge of Russian-language literature and current affairs
- Interest in the mission and programme of Pushkin House and understanding of the context in which Pushkin House operates
- Customer service experience
- Able to thrive in an autonomous environment and think on your feet
- Excellent interpersonal skills to work in a small team and with varied audiences
