Scenery Builders are required to make and assemble scenery in either metal or carpentry materials (or a combination of the two) to meet the standards required by the company and the client, working predominantly from construction drawings and occasionally by verbal instruction; to follow projects from the workshops through to installation on stage or at other venues. Scenery Builders report directly to the Head of Construction for all personnel matters and liaise with the Construction and Project Management teams on a day-to-day and project basis. They will work as part of a team that includes CTS's Scenic Art Department to produce first class scenery as contracted to CTS by various clients both in the UK and abroad.Job Requirements
Relevant qualifications or considerable experience in a workshop environment.
A high level of skill and ability in all aspects of scenery construction (to achieve particularly relating to either Carpentry or welding and fabrication techniques, with the commitment and drive themselves and to continue to build additional skills associate with the production of quality scenery.
Highly proficient in the use of all relevant hand and machine tools in both Carpentry and Metal Shop's
Ability to prioritise a complex workload and work to tight deadlines.
Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
Ability to work without supervision and to take initiative, but also to work within a team.
Excellent time management skills.
Ability to pay attention to detail.
Flexibility in working practice.

Understand and work from technical construction drawings.
Scenery Builders (DS) will be able to work either with a core skill in wood or metal work but will be able to switch between departments comfortably as per operational needs.
The metal work skills may include the ability to work with, materials using welding, bending, cutting, and shaping techniques.
Carpentry biased DS Scenery Builders would be expected, for example, to be able to make simple braces and supporting/stiffening frames for carpentry-based items they had made.
DS Scenery Builder would be expected to be fully competent and able to utilise all machinery across the Metal and Carpentry Departments, and to be able to machine materials as necessary using a variety of tools and equipment, including the CNC Machine, fabricating frames, platforms and assembling complex structures.
