The Screen Goals Mentor will support emerging Deaf, Disabled and/or neurodivergent creatives in film, TV, and video production across North East England. The role focuses on helping individuals identify, plan, and take steps toward screen-related goals, evaluate their progress, and when needed, signpost them to relevant opportunities and organisations in the region. The role links to two key programmes. Focus First is a talent development initiative for Disabled and Neurodivergent filmmakers, funded by Newcastle Cultural Investment Fund. Focus Forward, funded by Esm e Fairbairn, creates screen employment pathways for 30 Disabled and/or neurodivergent creatives over three years (10 annually) across the North East. Duties Management Support Receive and co ordinate mentoring applications. Organise mentoring meetings. Act as the first point of contact and co ordinator for three paid filmmaker placements per year. Mentoring Support members, mainly one to one, in defining individual goals and creating action plans. Regularly review progress, helping learners adapt their steps where needed. Maintain clear records of meetings, goals, and progress. Conduct evaluative conversations and surveys to gather feedback on challenges, successes, and wider experiences with Beacon Films. Directly support learners with elements of their plans where possible. Signpost opportunities within Beacon Films and externally, ensuring safeguarding practices are upheld when referring to outside organisations (training provided). Communicate regularly with Beacon Films' line management about progress, successes, and concerns. The role also includes other reasonable duties, requiring adaptability and commitment to enabling learners to thrive within the screen industries. Candidates should understand the Social Model of Disability, support learners' development at their own pace, and respect their talents. They should listen carefully, avoid judgment, and communicate effectively across diverse needs. Reflectiveness, collaboration with learners, families, and professionals, and enthusiasm for Beacon Films' mission are key. Essential experience includes 3+ years in film/TV/video production, strong industry networks, and knowledge of public policy structures (BFI, Film Hubs, Creative UK, North East Screen, etc.). Strong communication, self-management, and evaluation skills are required, along with willingness to complete an enhanced DBS check.
