Plymouth Culture has secured funding with a consortium of partners that includes Plymouth Sound National Marine Park (PSNMP) to develop 'Sea for Yourself', a four-year programme designed to reconnect citizens to the sea for mutual benefit and long-term transformation. As part of this programme, we will develop a series of Artist Residency opportunities which will uncover and share community stories. We are seeking three artists for residency in 2025/26. This opportunity is open to artists aged 18+, working in any artform and based in Devon and Cornwall who are not in full time education. The purpose of the residency is both to create an opportunity for the artist to develop their practice as well as engage audiences through increased understanding of PSNMP. The artists' approach should involve audiences throughout the residency and in making creative outputs. We are particularly interested in proposals that will engage communities who experience barriers to accessing culture and/or nature/marine environments. The residencies will take place between July 2025 and March 2026. The total budget available for each residency is £4,500 (inclusive of VAT) to include artist fee, travel/accommodation expenses, materials, production and project delivery costs. We have also secured a partnership with Grow Studios to support three weeks of access to their project space during each artists residency. Deadline for applications is Monday 7th July at 12 noon and expressions of interest should be submitted using the online form. Full details of the artist brief and application process can be found https://www.plymouthculture.co.uk/sea-for-yourself-artist-residencies - here. The purpose of the residency is both to create an opportunity for the artist to develop their practice. The residency also needs to increase understanding of and engagement with PSNMP so should seek to involve audiences throughout the residency and in making the creative outputs. We wish to support artistic development and engage audiences through community storytelling. These residencies must: Engage audiences with the PSNMP, increasing understanding of the marine environment Create an opportunity to platform community voices and stories Create a new body of work through participatory and co-creation methods with communities Develop the artist's practice Use digital inputs and/or create digital outputs through the residency which can be shared online and/or within the Grow Plymouth project space Connect to other partners and activity within the Sea for Yourself programme to support added value and legacy Please make your submission using the online application form by Monday 7th July 12 noon - https://sfy.plymouthculture.co.uk/submission-form-artists-in-residence/Job Summary
