Job Summary

The post holder will oversee research provision for the V&A Development department, supporting colleagues with the identification, collection, organisation and analysis of research information on prospective donors, supporters, and issues of strategic importance to the department and wider V&A.

Job Description

The V&A Development department is critical in enabling the Museum to realise its ambitions.

The department is responsible for securing funds from individual donors, corporates, patrons, trusts and foundations. The income raised through the Development department provides essential support for acquisitions, exhibitions, learning and accessibility programmes, and other activities that support the Museum's strategic plan. The department also secures funds towards FuturePlan, the V&A's extensive and ambitious programme of capital redevelopment.

The post holder will oversee research provision for the V&A Development department, supporting colleagues with the identification, collection, organisation and analysis of research information on prospective donors, supporters, and issues of strategic importance to the department and wider V&A. Specialist research will be dedicated toward supporting FuturePlan capital fundraising and multisite programming at a pivotal moment for the museum, as it prepares to commence ambitious new programmes at V&A East Storehouse and Museum, and planned renovation works at V&A South Kensington.

Job Requirements

Experience having served in a prospect research position, producing high-quality prospect and subject research, with experience in managing research processing via CRM system(s).

Experience having produced due diligence research, with a strong understanding of risk vectors, sources of data used to identify risk, strategies for analysing risk, and wider risk management practices in the sector.

Deep familiarity with current and presiding trends within the UK and international corporate, grants, and HNWI philanthropic sectors. Experience having formally analysed these trends for the benefit of senior figures.

Proven ability to process large volumes of information quickly, utilising appropriate tools and software to identify key datapoints: summarising findings quickly and efficiently.

In-depth knowledge of corporate, grants, and charitable financial structures

Job Responsibilities

To establish and oversee research processes and procedures, delivering the prospect information needs of the Development team to enable long-term multi-million-pound fundraising from the UK and international major donors, in accordance with the V&As strategic priorities

To liaise with Development teams, providing for the delivery of specific fundraising goals by initiating and directing prospecting activities across a range of V&A projects, in support of new fundraising targets emerging from multisite activity and FuturePlan.

To manage oversight of individual fundraiser portfolios, delivering upon a 'pipeline' prospecting system: leading regular prospecting meetings, serving as an expert source for Development fundraising priorities, and managing internal comms related to prospect development.
