Job Description

Social Media Assistant Wanted

Fake Escape is looking for a Social Media Assistant to support our 2026 Edinburgh Fringe season.

To celebrate 10 years of taking shows to the Fringe, we are presenting our #DecadeOfFringe season, with 3 productions across 3 major venue hubs:

*'Day of The Locust', 12.50pm, Pleasance Courtyard: Attic
*'Don't You Forget About Me', 2.20pm, Assembly Roxy: Downstairs
*'Saving Britney', 6.15pm, Underbelly George Square: Bluebell

This is our largest Edinburgh Fringe season to date. We normally manage our social media in house during the festival, but this year we are looking for an extra pair of hands to help us maintain a consistent, lively online presence throughout the run.

The role will focus mainly on Instagram; including posting, sharing stories, interacting with other accounts, helping maintain visibility across the festival and supporting general online engagement. We are also looking to explore launching a TikTok presence during the Fringe, so experience or interest in short form video content would be welcome.

We will continue creating many of our assets and a large amount of content in house, so this role is primarily about regular posting, responsiveness, audience interaction and helping the company stay present and active online during a very busy festival period. We would ideally like to work with someone based in Edinburgh for the duration of the festival, who may also be able to capture occasional backstage or venue based content when available.

The overall fee is £510. This is based on 1 hour per day at £15 per hour across 30 days from late July until the end of the festival, plus an additional £60 to cover 4 hours of ad hoc support during busier periods. Venue passes to Pleasance, Underbelly and Assembly venues are also included with the role.

To apply, please send a CV and short cover email outlining your relevant experience to Artistic Director David Shopland at [email protected]

Job Requirements

We are looking for someone organised, reliable and confident using social media, particularly Instagram. This is a light touch support role of around 1 hour per day, so we are not expecting someone to run the whole campaign, create every asset or be constantly available throughout the festival.

The main requirement is that you can help us keep a regular, friendly and responsive online presence by posting prepared content, sharing stories, tagging venues and artists, interacting with relevant accounts and spotting occasional simple content opportunities. Experience with reels, TikTok or short form video would be welcome, but not essential.

You should be comfortable working independently, communicating clearly and fitting the work around the rhythm of a busy Fringe day. An interest in theatre, comedy or the Edinburgh Fringe would be a real advantage, as would being based in Edinburgh during the festival.

Job Responsibilities

Responsibilities will include helping Fake Escape maintain a regular online presence across the Edinburgh Fringe period, with a focus on Instagram and some possible TikTok support. This may include publishing prepared posts, sharing stories, tagging venues, artists and partner accounts, responding to simple interactions, resharing relevant content and helping us stay connected to the wider festival conversation.

Where time allows, the role may also include capturing occasional short video or photo content from venues, rehearsals, backstage moments or audience activity, particularly if you are already nearby. You will not be expected to create a full campaign from scratch or be available throughout the day. The role is designed as flexible, light touch support of around 1 hour per day (which could be broken up throughout the day), working in communication with the company team.
