Job Summary

A creative and collaborative Sound Designer for our 2025 actor-musician pantomime ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’ (cast of 9). We are looking for someone with previous experience as a Sound Designer for pantomime at the mid-scale. Experience working on actor-musician productions is essential.

Job Description

The Sound Designer will conceive and oversee the delivery of the sound design for Jack and the Beanstalk. Duties include:

-To design and deliver the sound design for the production.

-To collaborate with the production team to meet access requirements of the company.

-To create any sound effects, in conjunction with the Composer.

-Collaborate with the Musical Director to fully realize the musical ambition of the production.

-To manage the sound budget, in consultation with the Production Manager.

-To attend and contribute to pre-production meetings and production meetings during rehearsals, in person wherever possible.

-To meet and liaise with the Production's creative team and the theatre's staff to ascertain and deliver the sound design: identifying the best use of the theatre's in-house sound equipment.

- Where necessary, to arrange additional equipment hires within the agreed budget and with Management approval.

- To work to the aims of the Theatre Greenbook and provide data as required.

- The specification, design and overseeing the fit up of the sound system.

- To work closely with the Sound No.1 to ensure the design is effectively programmed, operated and maintained.

We are looking for a collaborative candidate with proven Sound Designer experience, including actor-musician production experience. A strong understanding of QLab and Digico digital mixing consoles & system and digital sound desk is required.

Key Dates

Rehearsals begin on Monday 20th October, with tech week from Thursday 13th November and the first performance on Wednesday 19th November. Opening night is Saturday 22nd November and the final performance is Saturday 3rd January.

Attendance

The Sound Designer will be required to attend pre-production meetings, attend the first day of rehearsals, attend during rehearsals where appropriate, including runs in the final week, attend fit up and tech week, attend previews and working time up until Opening Night.
