Hadestown, the acclaimed Broadway musical phenomenon by singer-songwriter Anaïs Mitchell and director Rachel Chavkin makes its long-awaited West End premiere in February 2024 at the Lyric Theatre, is seeking a No. 3 to join the Sound team.

Job Description

Contract type: Fixed Term Contract - SOLT/BECTU West End Agreement

Duration: Initially full-time fixed term contract, starting in the w/c 8 December 2025 (TBC) until 6 December 2026 (inclusive). The production will usually perform 8 shows a week Tuesday to Sunday, with a Thursday, Saturday and Sunday matinee; and Monday as a day off

Fixed term contract dates are dependent on production and production schedule (dates subject to change and subject to the Producer's right to give not less than two weeks' notice of closure of the Production)

Some availability may be required for prep and production meetings prior to the w/c 8 December 2025 as well as for the load out. These calls will be confirmed nearer the time, and you shall be paid the salary pro-rata for any hours worked

Salary: £900.00 per week, buy out. Overtime payment for worked bank holidays, Sunday shows, and paid holiday

Hours of work: A maximum average of 48 hours per week, normally worked over 6 days with one day off per week

Annual leave: 32 days including Bank Holidays, paid pro rata for the duration of this agreement. Holiday embargo weeks may be designated within the schedule

Probation Period: 12 weeks

Responsible to: Sound No. 1, Company Manager & Associate General Manager

Job Requirements

  • Experience of working in a similar role on a small, medium, or large-scale production or equivalent
  • Knowledge of mic fitting and maintenance on a small, medium, or large-scale production or equivalent
  • Flexible and self-motivated approach with the ability to work well as part of a team and to form excellent working relationships. To be able to work calmly under pressure and clearly demonstrate an empathy with the pressures of the backstage performance environment
  • Awareness of current Health & Safety legislation
  • Proactive and energetic, able to work with commitment and dedication to find solutions
  • A calm and practical approach to technical troubleshooting
  • An excellent communicator and listener
  • A desire to work in and uphold an actively anti-racist and inclusive working environment
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion

Job Responsibilities

  • To assist the Production Manager, Sound Designers, Associate Sound Designer, Production Sound Engineer, Stage Manager, Sound No. 1 and Sound No. 2 in co-ordinating and maintaining the sound equipment
  • To run the on-stage sound plot during performances, and work with the Sound No. 1 and Sound No. 2 to ensure the smooth running of the show
  • To work with the Sound No. 2, taking responsibility for the radio mics during performances, including testing, fittings and checking, and managing sound checks
  • To deputise for the Sound No. 2 in their absence
  • Alongside the Sound No. 1 and Sound No. 2, to be responsible for tuning the guitar
  • To provide technical support for any cast rehearsals, including understudy rehearsals, as scheduled by the Company Manager and Stage Manager
  • To account for and support the administration of petty cash for Sound department spends,
  • To carry out other duties normally associated with the role of Sound No. 3 on a first-class production in the West End of London
