Job Summary

Francesca Moody Productions is seeking a Sound Operator for our upcoming productions of An Oak Tree and Feeling Afraid As If Something Terrible Is Going To Happen, taking place at The Other Palace. Dates of engagement are 5 October 2026 - 10 January 2027.

Job Description

This role is ideal for a Sound Operator with a high level of technical expertise and people skills. We are looking for someone who is a highly flexible team player familiar with both one person shows and two handers, with a strong technical background.

An Oak Tree - Tim Crouch's groundbreaking An Oak Tree returns to London this autumn. A bereaved father comes face to face with the stage hypnotist involved in his daughter's death in a funny, moving and utterly unique theatrical event. Featuring a different guest co-star every performance, seeing the script live for the first time.

Feeling Afraid As If Something Terrible Were to Happen - Fringe First Award-winning hit Feeling Afraid As If Something Terrible is Going to Happen returns to London. Starring West End favourite Steven Webb, this razor-sharp dark comedy follows a stand-up comic whose perfect romance spirals into obsession, deception and killer punchlines.

Dates of engagement are 5 October 2026 - 10 January 2027.

Job Requirements

Essential
- Experience as a Sound Operator
- Experience working effectively as a department of one.
- Experience operating and programming QLAB
- Confident troubleshooting technical issues as and when they arise
- Knowledge of Health and Safety legislation and relevant working practices
- Understanding of the production process, including get in, fit ups & technical rehearsals
- Strong communication and people skills; confident, friendly and approachable manner
- Ability to remain calm under pressure, especially in high pressure situations such as mid-show technical faults
- Highly organised, self-motivated and reliable with excellent customer service skills

Desirable
- Experience in a Fringe Festival environment.
- Enthusiasm for the arts
- Experience using Google Drive / Google Workspace

Job Responsibilities

Technical & Operational
- Actively contribute to the effective operation of the Productions
- Operate sound equipment and perform duties as required for each production.
- Perform the sound mix on each production
- Support the fit-up, technical rehearsals, and turn arounds in collaboration with the Stage Manager.
- Troubleshoot technical issues or cues
- Undertake the maintenance and ensure the good working order of all technical equipment and any other production facilities or equipment as required
- Support production creative team to ensure all technical elements are delivered successfully

Additional Responsibilities
- Act as a credible ambassador for Francesca Moody Productions
- Maintain a communicative, collaborative working environment
- Follow good, safe working practices in line with FMP's Health and Safety policies
- Ensure safe backstage and onstage practices in line with health and safety regulations.
- Undertake any other reasonable duties as and when required
