Position: Sound Operator

Rate of Pay: £735 pw

Dates: Monday 7th July - Monday 1st September

Location: Kew Gardens, London, UK

Description

The Sound Operator is responsible for the delivery of all audio elements in this outdoor production of Macbeth. Working closely with a small team, the operator oversees the sound system, microphones, and integration of playback/OSC control, while also supporting basic venue power-up and shutdown procedures.

This production is a remount of the Melbourne production.

Job Requirements

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate the DiGiCo SD11 digital mixing console, with QLab to trigger snapshots and sound cues. QLab is operator by the Stage Mangement
  • Manage Sennheiser EW DX wireless beltpack systems paired with Point Source Audio Hairline mics, including fitting, troubleshooting, and active mic handling during the show.
  • Mix vocals, line by line.
  • Ensure even and clear sound reinforcement using a Meyer Sound Point Source PA, performing regular checks and tuning as needed.
  • Working within noise guidelines, set by the venue and the producer.
  • Power up and shut down the PA system and lighting rig at the beginning and end of each performance.
  • Conduct RF scans and perform regular equipment checks and maintenance.
  • Support system setup and pack-down.
  • Liaise with Stage Management and staff to ensure smooth show operation.
  • Adapt to changes to the show on a nightly basis such as covers or changes during rehearsal period.

Job Responsibilities

Skills & Experience:

  • Proficiency with DiGiCo digital mixing consoles and QLab.
  • Experience with RF wireless microphone systems and live mic mixing.
  • Familiarity with Meyer Sound systems and basic PA.
  • Comfortable operating basic lighting power-on/off procedures (no design or programming required).
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to work independently in live environments.
  • Prior experience in outdoor theatre preferred.
  • Work well with an agile and small team.
