Job Description

Anvil Arts presents over 400 performances each year to 180,000 people drawn from throughout central Southern England. The Anvil, The Haymarket and The Forge offer a rich and high-quality programme of music of all genres, drama, dance, and comedy, serving a wide range of audiences.

Sound Technician

Do you have a experience of working in a venue technical department

We have an exciting opportunity for a Sound Technician to join our skilled, knowledgeable, and friendly team.

Our welcoming team provide technical services for performances, hires, and events across a wide variety of genres and are committed to the highest standards of production, presentation, delivering an experience that delights

You will work as part of a team looking after all aspects of putting on a performance in one of our three wonderful receiving venues. This includes the safe and efficient preparation of spaces, pre rigs, sound checks, fit ups and get outs.

You will also assist in the operation of the performance or be the point of contact for production sound.

Position Details:

Permanent full-time 40 hours per week (across the pay period)

We require applicants to be 18 years old or over

28 days/5.6 weeks holiday including bank holidays

Salary £28,640

Rota confirmed at least two weeks in advance via an app and online roster

Opportunities to work some great shows working across a wide variety of genres, from live music, comedy, theatre, dance, community productions and amateur dramatics.

Skills development opportunities across sound, lighting, stage, hemp flying and stage supervision

Training to include working at height, ladders and access, First Aid, IOSH Working Safely, and PAT testing

Job Requirements

Person Specification - essential requirements

  • Experience of sound engineering within a venue, theatre, technical department, touring company or similar
  • Hands on technical experience in preparing theatre spaces for performances and events
  • Hands on technical experience in setting up and operating sound equipment including wireless equipment
  • Experience in sound engineering /mixing live music as well as creating Theatre/Musical Theatre shows
  • Experience of customer /visiting company liaison, advising and assisting on the delivery of technical production requirements for the best customer experience
  • Ability to read and implement technical plans
  • Proven organisational skills with a positive outlook and can-do attitude
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills at all levels
  • An active team player
  • Proficient IT skills including Microsoft Office
  • Willing to learn new skills
  • Willingness to work flexibly across a 7 day a week rota to include evenings weekends and bank holidays

Job Responsibilities

The key objectives of this post are:

  • to be responsible for assisting the Production Department in the delivery of all technical equipment and production requirements throughout Anvil Arts venues
  • to be committed to the highest standards of technical production presentation and service with the aim of delivering a customer experience that delights and is above expectation
  • to provide technical services and support and be proficient in the delivery of all performance's exhibitions, and events with a bias, but not exclusively towards sound
