Job Summary

Black Lives Natter seeks a Sound Technician to run live sound, set up instruments, operate cues, troubleshoot issues, and support stage and technical management. Role covers 9 sessions per year, each 4 hours, for theatre and music events at Theatre Deli and other BLN events.

  • Reports to: Executive Producer
  • Location: London / On-site at Theatre Deli and live events
  • Contract Type: Part-time, paid
  • Hours: 4 hours per session, 9 sessions per year (6 Po'JaM events and 3 other shows/events)
  • Pay: £150 per session
  • Total fee for the season: £1,350
  • Start Date: 18th December 2025 (first Po'JaM event)
  • End Date: 18th December 2026
  • Interviews: Rolling from Monday 9th September 2025 until filled.

Role Purpose

We are seeking a Sound Technician to manage sound and technical production for Black Lives Natter's live theatre and music events. You will run cues, live instruments, microphones, and PA systems, troubleshoot technical issues, and liaise with performers and venue staff to ensure events run smoothly. This role allows the director, host, and performers to focus entirely on the creative content without worrying about sound or tech. You will also support stage and technical management on a per-event basis, ensuring all live events are executed seamlessly.

Job Requirements

  • Extensive experience in live sound for theatre or music events
  • Confident in setting up and operating live instruments, microphones, PA systems, and Q-Lab
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to identify and resolve technical issues independently
  • Knowledgeable about sound production and live event setups, including common technical challenges
  • Able to communicate effectively with performers, venue tech staff, and production team
  • Organised, reliable, and able to manage multiple tasks under pressure
  • Interest in community arts and inclusive creative practice
  • Music production background is a plus

Job Responsibilities

  • Set up, operate, and pack down sound equipment for live theatre and music events, including live instruments
  • Run cues, playback, and live sound during performances
  • Troubleshoot technical issues independently
  • Liaise with performers, venue technical staff, and production team
  • Support stage and technical management during events to ensure smooth delivery
  • Maintain and organise sound equipment
