Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced and technically confident Stage Manager to work across across a portfolio of five productions we are taking to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival this summer, ensuring all performances run smoothly, safely and to a high professional standard.

Contract Details

  • Dates: 1-31 August 2026 (inclusive of technical rehearsals and full performance runs from 6th August).
  • Pre-Festival Preparation:The Stage Manager will be required to undertake approximately three days (TBC) of remote preparation work prior to 1 August 2026. This preparation period will include advance technical planning, show paperwork preparation, liaison with venues and artists, and scheduling support. These days will be paid pro rata at the equivalent weekly rate (£900 per week).

  • Contract Type: Fixed-term freelance
  • Fee: £900 per week

We are looking for someone who:

An average day will be no more than 9 hours work, with a working week not exceeding 56 hours.

Job Requirements

Essential

  • Demonstrable experience as a Stage Manager in theatre, music, cabaret or live performance
  • Strong working knowledge of sound operation
  • Experience operating lighting desks (basic programming and cueing)
  • Confidence independently teching shows
  • Ability to assess venue infrastructure and adapt productions accordingly
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills

Desirable

  • Previous experience at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe or similar multi-venue festivals
  • Experience working with international artists
  • Experience in fast-turnaround repertory environments

Job Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage technical rehearsals for each production
  • Coordinate get-ins, fit-ups, rehearsals and get-outs within venue schedules
  • Call or run shows as required
  • Maintain accurate show paperwork (running orders, cue sheets, daily reports)
  • Act as primary liaison between artists, venues and the House of Oz producing team
  • Oversee scheduling and daily logistics across the programme
  • Troubleshoot performance or technical issues efficiently and calmly
  • Operate sound and basic lighting for performances
  • Programme and operate QLab (or equivalent playback software)
  • Adapt productions to varying venue specifications
  • Maintain show files and technical documentation
  • Ensure safe and consistent operation throughout the run
