Job Summary

We are looking for a Studio Assistant to join our team, working within our 3 busy East London studios.

Job Description

We are looking for a Studio Assistant to join our team, working within our 3 busy studios (Clapton, De Beauvoir and Walthamstow) on a part-time basis. The role is three days per week on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, 9am - 5pm.

The days and hours of work are not negotiable, so please only apply if you are available on these days/times. Teaching work will be available for the right candidates in addition to the studio assistant work (full training will be given but a foundational level of experience would be expected for the teaching work).

The candidate will be working under the supervision of our Studio Manager, Will, within all of our studios, and they have the opportunity to work alongside all members of our small and inclusive team. Being a cyclist is a huge perk for us (and the planet!), as you are likely to work in multiple locations each day.

Please state in your application why you want to work for SkandiHus.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Loading/unloading kilns
  • Preparing clay
  • Mixing glazes
  • Reclaiming studio clay
  • Maintaining studio cleanliness
  • Organising and sorting student work
  • Applicants must be able to lift a minimum of 15kg. Our clay is heavy!
  • Ad-hoc duties, to ensure the smooth running of our three studios

Benefits:

  • Salary £13.85 per hour (Monday, Wednesday and Friday 9am - 5pm with an hour for lunch)
  • Option to join our pension scheme
  • Becoming part of our small and friendly team, with regular team lunches
  • Pro rated holiday
  • Getting to spend time with our handsome studio dog, Alfie

Job Requirements

This is not a making role, but a general studio role suitable for someone who wishes to learn further about the industry through structured employment. An understanding of the workings of a pottery studio is necessary. The right candidate will be proactive, reliable, responsible, and willing to help maintain the studios in all areas. We will give additional training specific to our studios.
