Avalon are looking for a Technical Assistant Stage Manager to work on the UK tour of Operation Mincemeat. Still enjoying a phenomenal run in London’s West End, Operation Mincemeat is now also on its first national tour and has an exciting opening as part of the touring technical team.
The Tech ASM will lead on maintaining all scenic items in keeping with the design for the production, and hold key responsibility for maintaining the performer flying equipment on tour, whilst ensuring all equipment adheres to health and safety regulations and the manager's policies.
The ideal candidate will have experience of touring and opening large-scale touring theatre shows, ideally musicals.
Key responsibilities include:
- Attending all rehearsals, show calls, maintenance calls, get-ins, fit-ups and get-outs as required
- To ensure all props are cleaned, well maintained and ready for each performance;
- To lead on the upkeep of all scenic items and performer flying equipment through cleaning and daily checks, to ensure equipment and scenery are safely fitted and in working order for each performance, in keeping with the design for the production.
- To assist the technical Heads of Department in equipment cleaning and daily checks, to ensure equipment is in fitted and in working order for each performance.
- Responsibility for loading and unloading the wagons as required.
- To ensure that work materials and technical equipment are kept in a tidy and secured manner, including creating and maintaining all inspection, maintenance and all other required documentation for the safe and continued show operation;
- To report any faults to the relevant Head of Department or Production Manager and assist in resolving any issues as required.
- To learn and maintain a strong practical understanding of all technical stage plots, and to run technical plots during performances as required, to ensure the smooth-running of the show.
- To instruct venue crew where necessary.
- Ensure that security, safety and good housekeeping procedures for the department are properly carried out;
- Comply with the Manager's Health and Safety and other policies and ensure these are adhered to at all times;
- Perform all other job-related duties as requested.
Start Date: Tech begins wc 9th February 2026 (we may require the successful candidate to be available prior to this for prep)
End Date: Saturday 12th December 2026
The Tech ASM will work closely with the rest of the Stage Management team, touring company, resident crew, and visiting crew in executing the stage needs of the production.
Essential Skills:
- Strong prop maintenance and carpentry experience
- Experience of leading load-ins and load-outs on a large-scale touring production
- Leadership and ability to work calmly under pressure
- Similar relevant experience for touring large-scale theatre
- A high degree of stage management expertise, knowledge and practical understanding
- Good knowledge of technical production
- Strong communication and organisational skills
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office
- Excellent knowledge of Health and Safety legislation and Risk Assessments
- Ability to support a team, with a positive and professional work culture
- Flexible and self-motivated
