Job Summary

Jermyn Street Theatre, the West End's Studio Theatre is recruiting for a full-time Technical Manager. They will work closely with the theatre's staff and creatives to support the technical delivery of the productions at the theatre.

Job Description

Jermyn Street Theatre's Technical Manager is a core member of the team delivering high quality theatre in the West End's Studio Theatre. They will support the delivery of all the theatre's work by ensuring technical requirements for productions are met. They will work closely with the theatre's Producer and Executive Director as well as other members of the Jermyn Street Theatre team, freelance production managers, creative teams, and visiting companies.


You would be joining Jermyn Street Theatre at a transformative moment following its 30th anniversary season and recent transfers of Farm Hall to the Theatre Royal Haymarket in the West End and The Lonely Londoners to Kiln Theatre.

This role is perfectly suited for someone currently working in an in-house or freelance technical capacity who is looking to be a core part of delivering ambitious, varied work in a West End producing house, and have the opportunity to work closely with creative teams.

Job Requirements

Essential

  • Experience in theatre lighting, sound, and production.
  • Knowledge and experience programming on ETC EOS desks and QLab.
  • Knowledge and experience with sound equipment and sound desks.
  • Experience maintaining theatre equipment.
  • Practical knowledge of theatre production processes.
  • Strong IT skills.
  • A problem-solving approach to the production process.
  • Accuracy and excellent attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to prioritise and work under pressure in busy environments.
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety.

Desirable

  • Full UK driving license
  • Experience with video and projection.
  • Knowledge of sustainable practices in theatre.
  • Experience being a keyholder for a building.
  • First Aid training.
  • Experience leading crews.
  • Experience managing budgets.

Job Responsibilities

Technical & Production Responsibilities
Coordinate all technical requirements for in-house and touring productions, working closely with the Producer, Executive Director, production managers, directors, designers and stage management teams from pre-production through to get-out. Attend production meetings, and resolve technical issues during runs. Manage equipment hires, purchases and consumables, support accessible performances, and liaise with visiting companies. Maintain compliance with Health & Safety regulations and industry best practice.

Maintenance & Operations
Ensure all technical equipment, workshop spaces and storage areas are well maintained, logged and budgeted for. Manage maintenance schedules, consumable stock, and the technical maintenance budget.

Additional Duties
Monitor technical budgets, recruit and manage a pool of casual technicians, support financial reporting and proactively identify opportunities for technical improvement.
