Job Description

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

MAIN DUTIES

  • To undertake the duties of the Duty Technician for Productions, Tours, Projects and Events at Brixton House and other sites.
  • To operate technical equipment for performances within Brixton House's remit, with a bias to Sound Operation
  • To program technical equipment for performances.
  • To provide technical assistance for events, Hire, community events and Creative Engagement events at Brixton House.
  • To maintain all equipment in the technical Department.
  • To lead freelance teams, acting as the Lead technician.
  • To organise and maintain the Sound Equipment Store

PRACTICAL

  • Lead get-ins, fit-ups, and get-outs for productions and events.
  • Act as PSE on in-house productions and co-productions.
  • Oversee vehicle loading/unloading.
  • Maintain and improve technical systems at Brixton House.
  • Prepare, install, and operate technical equipment for events and rehearsals.
  • Attend rehearsals and Learning and Participation events as needed.
  • Ensure equipment requirements match plans, plots, and schedules.
  • Clean, maintain, and test technical equipment and areas according to guidelines.

PLANNING

  • Contribute to event and project planning within the Technical Department.
  • Create plans, plots, and schedules for productions and events.
  • Help plan a maintenance program for the technical department.
  • Maintain the technical department archive.

WORKING SAFELY

  • Follow Brixton House's Health and Safety Policy.
  • Safely use technical and work equipment, including access and lifting equipment.
  • Maintain a safe and tidy workspace.
  • Work safely at height with access equipment.
  • Drive vehicles and inspect technical equipment as needed.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Implement Brixton House's guidelines, policies, and procedures.
  • Actively engage across departments to foster a positive company culture.
  • Collaborate with the Creative Engagement Department to broaden access.
  • Comply with Health and Safety legislation and company policies.

Job Requirements

PERSONAL SPECIFICATION

ESSENTIAL

  • A minimum 2-years professional experience working in the technical departments of a performance venue or within the Event, Performance or Creative Industries.
  • Proven experience of operating digital sound desks.
  • Proven experience of programming Playback and show control software (particularly QLab).
  • Proven experience of sound editing software.
  • Proven experience of operating and programming ETC Eos family Lighting Consoles.
  • A keen interest in technology for performance.
  • Demonstrated ability to work to deadlines.
  • Ability to fault find technical equipment problems.
  • Familiarity with and willingness to work unsocial hours, as is the nature of the entertainment industry.
  • Ability to work confidently at height.
  • Computer literate.
  • Experience of using good Health and Safety practices within the entertainment industry.

DESIRABLE

  • A formal qualification in performance technology.
  • Experience in Set construction.
  • Experience of CAD.
