Job Summary

The Theatre Manager will run our unique hire-only theatre. They will lead on all sales, operational and administrative aspects of managing a venue, and act as Duty manager when required, delivering a consistently safe, efficient and high standard of service to clients whom have hired the space.

Job Description

The Shaw Theatre is seeking an experienced and motivated Theatre Manager to oversee the day-to-day management of our venue. This is a hands-on role suited to someone with strong organisational skills, a calm and confident approach, and a passion for delivering excellent experiences for artists, visiting companies and audiences.

Job Requirements

Essential

  • Previous Duty Management experience in an arts-based venue
  • Strong Commercial Awareness
  • Ability to work well under pressure
  • Strong people management skills
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Excellent team leadership skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strong numeracy and literacy skills
  • Full-Time Availability
  • Eligibility to work in the UK

Desirable Skills

  • First Aid trained
  • Health & Safety training
  • Box Office experience (Line-Up desirable)
  • Bar Experience
  • Basic knowledge of lighting/sound equipment

Job Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee all sales, financial, operational, and administrative functions of the theatre

  • Actively seek new hire and event opportunities

  • Manage venue hire enquiries, contracts, invoicing, payroll submissions, and staff rotas

  • Lead box office sales, reporting, and customer communications

  • Support event marketing through social media and newsletters

  • Recruit, train, schedule, and manage Front of House and Box Office staff

  • Ensure compliance with health & safety, licensing, and relevant legislation

  • Maintain effective working relationships with hotel departments

  • Act as Duty Manager for performances and venue hires

  • Manage company requirements and day-to-day operational queries

  • Ensure production schedules are adhered to and communicate changes to relevant teams
