Job Description

The role involves assisting the Centre Manager in delivering the core functions of the service, including service delivery, policy, finance, staffing and facility management, while working predominantly with teenagers and across all age groups to become a trusted and approachable support. The post holder will build strong, respectful and purposeful face-to-face relationships with young people aged 13+, offering guidance and encouragement on key issues such as drugs, alcohol, pregnancy, health, self-esteem, independent living and relationships. The role requires a creative and flexible approach to both centre-based youth work and street-based outreach, responding to the needs of the service and the young people it serves. It focuses on empowering young people through coaching, information and signposting to opportunities, raising awareness of wider social issues, challenges and risks, and supporting them to make informed choices and positive contributions to society. The post holder will act as a positive role model, demonstrating professionalism, honesty and integrity, maintain appropriate confidentiality and professional boundaries, understand and act on safeguarding concerns, record and share relevant statistical information to evidence service impact, operate within organisational policies, participate in training, support the day-to-day delivery of the service, and undertake additional duties appropriate to the role as required by the Management Committee.

Job Requirements

We are seeking individuals who genuinely demonstrate our core values in their work. This includes showing empathy and understanding by recognising and responding to the needs of children, young people and families from their perspective, and treating everyone with respect by valuing their opinions, beliefs and voices through a child-centred, personalised approach. Candidates should be positive and solution-focused, committed to achieving the best possible outcomes, and dedicated to protecting and promoting the rights of children and young people with learning disabilities and/or autism. We value individuals who are tenacious in pursuing appropriate support, compassionate in their responses, committed to continuous learning and improvement, and who work collaboratively with others to ensure joined-up, effective support.

Job Responsibilities

The post holder will support the Centre Manager in maintaining the 13+ youth service, helping to create a positive, safe and welcoming environment that young people want to attend. They will encourage young people's active participation and ensure their ideas shape the delivery and evaluation of programmes including wellbeing, sports, arts, creativity, cookery and physical activity, while remaining aware of the challenges faced by young people in Speke. Responsibilities include maintaining cleanliness, ensuring health and safety, and supporting young people to achieve their full potential. Outreach duties involve building trusted relationships on the streets, promoting safety, reducing anti-social behaviour, targeting identified hotspots, chaperoning trips and residentials, and ensuring high standards of behaviour in public settings.
