Salary range: £9,536.92 - £13,184.61) (FTE £29,215.21 - £40,389.47) 16 Hours per week/ 2, 37 weeks per year We are seeking to appoint a highly creative, committed and enthusiastic professional to teach basket making work to small groups of students of mixed abilities, aged 16 - 24 years
The willow work curriculum provides students with exceptional opportunities for creativity, enabling a therapeutic connection with nature and the development of transferable skills. Students will experience the whole process from plant to finished product including the tasks relating to cutting, planting and weeding the willow for use in their sessions
Applicants must have experience of working with learners with learning differences and complex needs and have a sound knowledge and understanding of working with willow. Experience of teaching or training in willow work would be advantageous.
To undertake this position successfully you will have:
- Knowledge of working with willow and the basic techniques and weaves involved in basketry making
- Experience of working with young people and vulnerable adults with special educational needs, challenging behaviour and mental health difficulties.
- A teaching qualification or be willing to train towards a teaching qualification.
- Experience of working in an education or other public sector environment and possess a high degree of personal resilience and emotional intelligence.
- Excellent verbal and written skills with the ability to complete appropriate paperwork within agreed timescales.
Main Duties:
- To plan, prepare and deliver the craft work to students on a small group basis according to their individual learning needs and requirements.
- To enable a therapeutic connection with nature for young people with complex needs.
- Track, assess and report on student progress in line with their individual targets and aspirations.
- Deliver qualifications in line with student pathways.
