About the role
The Royal College of Art is seeking an exceptional practitioner and researcher in Ceramics & Glass to join our School of Arts & Humanities.

This is an exciting opportunity for an established creative practitioner and researcher with extensive knowledge of material-led practices, and a broad understanding of the critical theories and philosophies that support innovation across ceramics, glass and the wider field of applied art.

You will bring a significant contribution to the field through your practice and research, demonstrating diverse, experimental and expansive approaches to applied art practices and theories. You will also have a strong commitment to postgraduate teaching and pedagogy, and the ability to work collaboratively within a team-based programme.

You will play an active role in developing the curriculum and exploring innovative, research-informed approaches to teaching and learning. You will teach and support students through lectures, workshops, seminars, tutorials and critiques, drawing on your own research and professional expertise.

Job Requirements

Research and teaching
You will develop and maintain an active programme of research within the Applied Arts disciplines, producing high-quality research outputs and contributing to the RCA's research culture and REF ambitions. You will develop a five-year research plan and contribute to research funding activity, including collaborative projects with colleagues and external partners.

You will become an active participant in the Material Engagements Research Cluster, contributing to the intellectual life of the School and wider College.

As an academic and practitioner, you will contribute to teaching across postgraduate programmes, including MA and research students, and where appropriate to cross-School and cross-College initiatives. You will provide academic, pastoral and technical support, contribute to assessment and curriculum development, and supervise research students where appropriate.

A doctorate, experience of developing and assessing courses at undergraduate or postgradua

Job Responsibilities

You will also contribute to student recruitment, outreach, academic administration and the wider academic community of the RCA.

About you
You will have a relevant first degree and postgraduate qualification, alongside substantial experience and achievement in ceramics, glass, applied art or a closely related field.

You will be able to demonstrate:

A significant body of creative practice and research in ceramics, glass or a related applied art discipline.
A commitment to high-quality postgraduate teaching, learning and student support.
Experience of, or clear potential for, producing research outputs of 3 REF quality or above*.
Experience of supervising or supporting academic work at Master's level.
The ability to contribute creatively to curriculum development and innovative approaches to pedagogy and delivery.
A collaborative approach and the ability to work effectively with colleagues and students from diverse backgrounds.
A commitment to equality, inclusion.
