Land of Iron is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Visitor Experience and Volunteer Officer to join our team. This is a key role in shaping the visitor journey and supporting our volunteer programme as part of a growing and ambitious heritage attraction.

You will champion our visitors' needs, ensuring tours and experiences are welcoming, engaging and accessible. Working closely with colleagues across events, learning and retail, you will help develop income opportunities and ensure every guest enjoys a high-quality visit.

You will also lead on volunteering across the museum, developing strategies to recruit, support and inspire volunteers while strengthening partnerships and ensuring meaningful and rewarding placements.

We are looking for someone with excellent people skills, strong organisational ability and experience in visitor-facing or volunteer management roles.

Part-time (21 hours per week. Fixed Term 17 month contract)

Actual Salary: £13,500 per annum (FTE £22,500)

Job Responsibilities

Visitor experience

  • Champion the needs of our visitors on the management team
  • Using audience insight and sector knowledge, ensure that our visits/tours are welcoming, accessible and engaging.
  • Working with the Events Officer and Retail Officer, support the development and maintenance of income lines such as retail and hire.
  • Ensure all work is carried out with relevant and robust risk management, compliance and sector standards.

Volunteer management and strategy

  • Develop and lead on volunteering strategies for the Trust, ensuring an inclusive and creative approach to how we attract, recruit and develop our volunteers.
  • With colleagues across the Trust build and maintain partnerships and seek grants for volunteering
  • Ensure volunteer placements are meaningful and rewarding and that individual volunteers are supported for an experience which supports both museum operations and their individual health and wellbeing
  • Lead on volunteer communications.
