Description

Job Summary

Children’s Capital of Culture would like to commission four artists to create four large yellow and black banners (one per artist) that will respond to each of our festival year’s programming themes.

Job Description

We are looking for four visual artists to engage with children and young people from the local community to create four large-scale banners, each of which will feature and represent one of the four Children's Capital of Culture programming themes.

The commissioned artists will work collaboratively with children and young people in community settings to co-design and co-create these banners. The banners will then be paraded at Roots: Rotherham Street Carnival on Saturday 29th March 2025.

This commission forms part of the Children's Capital of Culture opening programme for our 2025 festival year.

We anticipate these being large, visually impactful banners, and so anticipate them being no less than 1.5 metres wide and 2 metres high in size.

We are looking to work with artists who can demonstrate significant experience of working with children and young people, and who will support them to develop confidence and visual art skills through the creation of amazing pieces of art.

Over the course of the commission, each visual artist will be appointed a community or youth group to work with and deliver visual art workshops. Artists must be available to deliver creative workshops at times when the groups conduct their sessions - though we will work with our commissioned artists to 'match' them with groups that best suit their schedules.

The large-scale banner should represent one of the programming themes chosen but must be inspired by the participants' ideas and co-created by the children and young people working with the artist.

A total fee of ÂŁ3,000 will be awarded to each successful applicant. This includes all aspects including; planning and delivering workshops, and creating the large-scale banner.

This fee is inclusive of materials cost (including banner fixtures), travel and expenses.
