We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated person to join our team as Welcome Assistant (New Audiences), prior to the opening of the Quentin Blake Centre for Illustration in May 2026.

The Welcome Assistant (New Audiences) will support Quentin Blake Centre to both connect with and welcome audiences, with a particular focus on new and younger audiences. Over 21 months, you will gain experience of participation, visitor welcome and communications. This job is intended as a first step towards a career in museums, galleries and visitor attractions.

Job Requirements

Essential skills, experience and qualities:

  • Curiosity about our audiences and commitment to learning.
  • A positive attitude and a good team-player.
  • Understanding of and familiarity with different social media channels (e.g. Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, LinkedIn).
  • Capable of working both under instruction and independently.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good organisational skills and punctuality.
  • Accuracy and confidence with using a computer for capturing, storing and sharing information.

Job Responsibilities

Communications and social media:

  • Work with the Communications and Marketing Lead to create content for social media and other channels that is relevant and accessible for the people we want to connect with.
  • Produce and edit visual content including photos and videos for social channels including Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn.
  • Draft content and written copy for social media that reflects our brand. Respond to queries and provide customer service across our channels.
  • Research and test potential new platforms and tools.
  • Conceive, plan and schedule relevant content.
  • Monitor and provide reports on the use of social media content using tools including Meta Business Suite.
  • Identify and escalate potential issues to the Comms and Marketing Lead.

Visitor welcome:

  • providing information about what's on and assistance with navigating the site
  • issuing and checking tickets
  • being present in the galleries to keep visitors and artworks safe.
