Job Summary

We are inviting expressions of interest from artists to work collaboratively with a group of Black young people to develop and create a significant art exhibition for an upcoming exhibition entitled Warrior Women.

Job Description

This commission forms part of a wider programme celebrating the stories, resilience, leadership and achievements of Black women throughout history and into contemporary society. The project will provide young people with the opportunity to explore these narratives through a creative process, culminating in the production of a striking exhibition piece that reflects their ideas and voices.
The appointed artist will facilitate a series of creative engagement sessions before designing and producing the final work in collaboration with participants. The work will then be installed at a center in Middlesbrough.

The artist will be commissioned from August - October 2026 to produce the art form by 24th October 2026.
Fee: £10000

Job Requirements

Applicants should demonstrate:
* Experience of delivering participatory arts projects.
* Experience working with young people and diverse communities.
* An understanding of collaborative and co-created artistic practice.
* A strong portfolio of installation, sculpture or exhibition design work.
* Excellent organisational and project management skills.
* Ability to deliver projects to agreed budgets and deadlines.
Desirable:
* Experience of heritage or museum-based projects.
* Knowledge of Black history and culture.
* Experience creating accessible and inclusive creative environments.

Job Responsibilities

* Attend an inception meeting with the project team.
Liaise with lead workshop artist
* Facilitate a co-design process that places participants at the heart of the creative development.
* Design and fabricate a high-quality exhibition artwork inspired by the workshop outcomes.
* Source and manage all materials required.
* Ensure the work complies with health and safety requirements,provide design and installation risk assessment and is suitable for public display.
* Deliver, install and de-install the artwork.
* Work collaboratively with the project team throughout the commission.
* Document the process throughout the creative process for evaluation and promotional purposes
