The Youth Engagement Officer will lead on embedding youth voice across We Make Culture's programmes. This includes establishing and facilitating a Youth Panel (or similar), coordinating feedback from young participants, improving communication of progression opportunities, and supporting programme administration and events.

This is an entry-level role with a leadership element, funded through the Rank Foundation's Time to Shine programme. It is for people who arecurrently unemployed or underemployed. Rank Foundation defines"underemployed" as: 'an individual working below their current skillset ortraining. For example, we have leaders who have successfully moved fromretail into youth work or social media roles. The prospective leader will notcurrently be in substantive employment; they can be employed but the newrole must have significantly increased responsibility."

The Time to Shine leadership programme offers structured support, mentoring, and professional development to build leadership, while gaining practical experience in the sector. Engagement with the leadership programme is an essential part of this role.

Job Requirements

Essential

  • Passion for empowering young people and amplifying youth voice Interest in participatory arts and inclusive music-making
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Experience facilitating group discussions or youth-led activities (formal or informal)
  • Organisational skills to manage tasks, plan activities, and support administration
  • Ability to work collaboratively across a small, dynamic team
  • Commitment to inclusion and awareness of barriers young people face
  • Flexibility to work evenings/weekends as required

Desirable

  • Experience working with young people in creative, educational, or community settings
  • Awareness of safeguarding procedures
  • Experience coordinating projects or events
  • Skills in gathering and analysing feedback
  • Knowledge of Sunderland's cultural and social landscape
  • Digital/media skills to support youth engagement (e.g. social media, video, design tools)

Job Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of a WMC Youth Panel, ensuring WMC has a platform for youth voice which informs organisational strategy and board-level decisions
  • Facilitate feedback sessions and support the collection of impact data from WMC groups
  • Coordinate communication of progression opportunities (e.g. gigs, funding, training) and proactively seek new partnerships to benefit young people alongside WMC Producers
  • Support the planning and delivery of WMC events and weekly music groups
  • Act as a representative and advocate for WMC, including attending external events and meetings
  • Participate fully in Time to Shine programme activities, including leadership days, mentoring, and action learning
  • Engage with RankNet digital platform and contribute to peer learning and development opportunities
