Calico is looking for a skilled Freelance 360 Video Editor to join our team in creating a powerful virtual reality (VR) training tool that explores the lived experiences of women, girls and lgbtqia+ folk in the night-time economy (NTE). The tool will invite NTE staff - such as bar, security, and transport workers - to step into these experiences, encouraging empathy and supporting safer, more inclusive nightlife spaces. You will collaborate closely with a Unity Developer, Sound Designer, and 3D Modelling Artist, under the creative direction of Calico's co-directors Daz Scott and Martha Harrison. The project builds upon https://wearecalico.co.uk/training/ - CurfewVR, our acclaimed training programme for safer public spaces, and represents the next stage in Calico's mission to use art, storytelling, and technology as catalysts for social change. The 360 Video Editor will be responsible for reviewing, stitching, and editing 360 footage captured by Calico to create an immersive VR environment. You'll shape visual flow and guide viewer attention, using transitions, motion cues, and subtle visual effects to support narrative clarity and emotional impact. You will work closely with the 3D Modelling Artist to ensure smooth integration of 3D elements into live footage, and prepare exports optimised for Unity implementation. This freelance role combines remote flexibility with one in-person meeting in Birmingham (travel paid). You'll have creative freedom to propose visual storytelling techniques while ensuring consistency with Calico's artistic and social goals. Dates: 10 Nov: In-person production meeting (Birmingham, travel paid) 5-9 Jan: 4 flexible days - create rough cut 16-27 Feb: 2 flexible days - refine and finalise Fee: 7 days at £200/day (£1,400 total) Essential: Proven experience editing 360 video for VR applications Access to your own professional editing software and equipment Ability to work to a creative brief and deliver to deadlines Confidence contributing creative ideas and storytelling input Excellent collaboration and communication skills A passion for socially engaged and political art Desirable: Based in the Midlands Experience editing footage filmed at night or in low light environments Edit and assemble 360 video content captured by Calico into cohesive, immersive VR scenes Guide audience focus through pacing, framing, and post-production techniques Collaborate with the 3D Modelling Artist to integrate visual assets and effects into live-action footage Work with the Unity Developer to ensure correct export formats and smooth technical integration Apply creative judgement to enhance narrative flow, tone, and emotional impact Participate in production meetings and maintain clear communication with project leads Manage your workflow independently, ensuring timely delivery of all project milestones Send over a short cover letter (maximum 1 side of A4, or voice note/video equivalent) on what you could bring to the project and an example of your work/CV to [email protected] by Monday, 20th October, 11 PM.
