Description

Job Summary

Curating Visibility is commissioning a digital designer or maker to create an accessible digital installation at Charleston. The installation will explore lived experiences of ‘madness’ through interactive sound, animation and objects.

Job Description

We welcome proposals from individuals, companies or consortia with experience in:
Digital and interactive installation design

Working with audio, animation and visual media.
Creating accessible experiences for disabled, deaf, mad and neurodivergent audiences.
Developing work within cultural and heritage settings.

Disabled-led teams and practitioners are strongly encouraged to apply.

Proposal budget: £15,000 (inc. VAT covering all design, production, materials, AV equipment, installation and contingencies)

Deadline for proposals: Wednesday 11 February, 5pm.

Job Requirements

The installation will centre around a dining table experience, using physical fragments of an illustrated
dinner service which visitors can move and arrange. These interactions will trigger audio and animated text, including poetry, sound compositions and illustrations developed by the Fellow in collaboration with the Mad Heritage Collective and commissioned artists.
The work will invite visitors to explore understandings of 'madness' across the twentieth and
twenty-first centuries, and to reflect on whose experiences are valued, celebrated or marginalised.
This commission invites artists to think expansively about access in all its forms. We are interested in
proposals that respond to the realities of the site and its constraints, while also questioning how access can be reimagined, negotiated or made visible. This might include (but is not limited to) physical access,
sensory access, digital access, interpretive access, and the emotional or social experience of cultural spaces.
