Job Summary

The Parochial Church Council (PCC) of St Peter’s Church, Horninghold wish to appoint a dynamic Heritage Activities Coordinator to help coordinate the engagement and community activity which will take place during the delivery of their National Lottery Heritage Fund project.

Job Description

The contractor will have overall responsibility for coordinating the community engagement activity for the project including volunteering.

The contractor will be based at both St Peter's Church and their home base.

The contract duration is from January/February 2025 to the end of the project 31st Oct 2026.

The role will provide a minimum of 85 days during the project with the pattern of work subject to negotiation. The daily rate will be £300 per day up to a maximum fee of £25,500 (excluding VAT if applicable). The fee should include all expenses such as travel. Materials and equipment for delivering the various activities has been accounted for within the project budget.

This role requires flexibility, and it will be necessary to work some weekends and evenings.

Job Requirements

A suitable qualification in a relevant area such as heritage/arts/education OR community development with at least two years' experience of working in a relevant sector area.

Knowledge of arts or heritage sector project management, learning, interpretation, volunteering and access issues.

Experience of

  • delivering activity-based projects in a heritage setting
  • working with a range of people/groups/organisations and developing new audiences
  • effective collaborative working with external partners and stakeholders and developing effective relationships
  • working with and developing volunteers

Effective interpersonal, networking, communication, and presentational skills.

Ability to take the initiative, identify priorities and plan activities.

An understanding of the challenges of working within historic and religious buildings.

Understanding of financial management

Enthusiastic, approachable and confident.

Prepared to work flexibly according to the needs of the organisation,

Job Responsibilities

  • Deliver, monitor and support volunteering and community engagement as outlined in the Project Plan;
  • Work with the PCC to establish and support the development of a Horninghold Local History Group;
  • Lead on the recruitment, training and deployment of volunteers, ensuring increased diversity of volunteers;
  • Aactively engage with local people and stakeholders to determine needs and encourage participation in the project;
  • Support the development of a sustainable legacy for the project, in particular to ensure that volunteers have the capacity to continue to deliver project benefits;
  • Liaise with the evaluation consultant to monitor and evaluate the project including gathering project data and reporting on achievement of milestones and targets for the evaluation of the project;
  • Undertake day-to-day administrative tasks including maintaining community engagement/activity project budgets, ordering resources, organising events, and producing regular reports to the PCC.
